Eleanor & Park is an incredible realistic touching novel that demonstrates life in the messed up world we live in.
I began this novel in confusion over why it was vastly raved about, however as I journeyed through each chapter I discovered why. Rowell's writing is touching as the words are written beautifully that enhances each of the characters. Eleanor's struggle throughout her new school and living with herself has took a toll on her enjoying her youth, from her family struggles, neglect and poverty it shows this book includes many themes. Her struggle with her weight, hair colour, freckles and her strange take to people has placed her in difficult situations that has caused her to be bullied severely, not only by her peers but by her stepdad. As Park was portrayed as an odd ball at first on the bus, his character grew and matured as he became crazed by Eleanor.
I believe this beautiful romance was a wonderful capture of life as a teenager, anything can happen at any moment. I loved every step throughout this novel, being greeted with all these experiences that both Eleanor & Park are faced with. How relationships can turn in the blink of an eye, but also can become something greater than that. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a little heart warming novel, easy read and light. Superb writing and narrative.
